Features that I would like to see in Windows 7

Sep 23rd, 2008 | By A Ash | Category: Featured articles

These are some of the features that I would like to see in Windows 7, Microsoft, take a look at it..

  • Take advantage of multicore cpu’s without the developer changing any code (Eg. If I have a browser with many tabs, OS should run the processes under different core)
  • Take full advantage of existing memory (Eg. If I have 2 GB RAM, OS should manage memory to make sure its fully allocated to the existing programs and if new programs are started, OS should deallocate the memory to accomodate new programs. In otherwords, OS should be using the resources close to 90%~100% all the time so that the user experience is enhanced)
  • Get rid of registries, so I can uninstall by deleting the folder
  • Total isoloation of user and system folders as in *nix sysytems
  • A task terminator to terminate without asking me, if I am administrator, Are you sure?
  • A complete command line interface to operate the computer via Telnet
  • An option to boot in command line only and still be able to use all the programs (Eg. If I run Iexplorer.exe, it should run like lynx or something like that)
  • Allow for multiple desktop with ability to attach it to different monitors, if available
  • A stealth browsing mode to enable faster browsing experience by killing all unneccesary process and allocate 100% memory, cpu and network for the browser.
  • Allow normal users (without admin previleges) to install programs which can be used by the installed user only. (The user software configuration file to be kept in a central location, not in user folders)
  • All common unix/linux command line programs to be available, eg. wget, curl, ftp, telnet, services, vi, top etc
  • Ability to attach process or programs to a specific core where multiple core CPUs available
  • Ability to set maximum memory and maximum cpu to be used by a certain program
  • A light version of IE Browser
  • Ability to use different Window managers as in Linux to customize the look and feel
  • A Zip/archive program which can handle most compression format such as .jar, .zip, .war, .tar,.gz etc
  • An incremental backup program that works
  • A continuous disk and memory defragmenter (a garbage collector for the OS??)
  • One version of OS (at the most two version, Enterprise and Normal)
  • Provide an Open Source version of the OS
